16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence: Campaign Overview

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is an international campaign that seeks to raise awareness and inspire action to end violence against women and girls around the world. Running annually from November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10th (Human Rights Day), the campaign aims to mobilize people, communities, and organizations to take meaningful steps toward eliminating all forms of gender-based violence.

As a digital media accelerator, RNW Media will focus the campaign on creating safer digital spaces for women by eliminating online and tech-facilitated GBV and discrimination. Considering the UN Women Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality Action Coalition Blueprint which encourages action by commitment-makers.

Objectives:  
  1. Create an engaging and visually appealing interactive dynamic webpages for the campaign.
  1. Incorporate user-friendly navigation and interactive features including a contact or submission form
  1. Ensure compatibility with various devices (responsive design).
  1. Optimize the page for search engines (SEO).
  1. Integrate analytics tools (GA4, GSC) for tracking user engagement.
Scope of Assignment / Deliverables:
  • Design mockups and prototypes of the website
  • Develop the Interactive webpages (fully functional)
  • Position the webpages under RNW Media website
  • Documentation of features and functionalities
  • Automated analytics setup report
  • Post-launch support report
Timeline: Nov 2024 – Jan 2025
  • Project Kick-off: 1st Nov 2024

Required skills and experiences

Service provider should demonstrate and provide examples of previous experience in the performance of similar services as follows:

  • Individuals or a reputable agency with at least 3 years of prior experience designing visually appealing and navigation friendly websites or landing page
  • Have a broad knowledge of current web development technologies and design tools in the field, and new software and other web programming languages and programs including use of HTML, CSS, Macromedia Flash, Java, PHP, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity and relevant experience in using different Content Management Systems (CMS), like WordPress, framer, or similar
  • Have excellent knowledge of recent trends in graphic design, websites, including online video publishing, and social media networking;
  • Demonstrate the ability to create innovative and visually appealing design;
  • Include AI powered gamification elements in the website, including chat simulation or other interactive features.

Functional Requirements and Maintenance

  • The web developer ensures to provide a website that enables user to interact with the website with build in materials and submit their ideas
  • The web developer ensures that the hosting is provided and included for at least two years after the completion of the web development process.  
  • The web developer ensures to include assistance for at least 3 months of support and maintenance of the website upon completion.  
  • The load time throughout the website should be less than 3 seconds.

Responsive Design

  • Mobile-Friendly Design: The website should be fully optimized for mobile devices, ensuring that it is easy to navigate, read, and interact with on smartphones and tablets. It should have a responsive layout that adjusts and scales elements appropriately for different screen sizes.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: The website should work consistently across various web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. It should be thoroughly tested to ensure proper rendering, functionality, and performance on different browsers.
  • Load Time: The website should load quickly across different devices and internet connections. Slow load times can lead to user frustration and higher bounce rates. Optimizing images, minifying code, and utilizing caching techniques are some ways to improve loading speed.
  • Functionality and Feature: The website's core features and functionality should work consistently across all devices. Forms, interactive elements, and navigation should be fully functional and provide the same experience regardless of the device being used.

 Accessibility

  • Compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG): The WCAG provides a set of internationally recognized standards for web accessibility. Ensuring that the website meets the appropriate WCAG level (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA) is a crucial criterion.
  • Keyboard Accessibility: The website should be fully operable using a keyboard alone, without relying on mouse or touch input. This allows individuals who have motor disabilities or rely on assistive technologies like screen readers to navigate and interact with the website.
  • Screen Reader Compatibility: The website should be compatible with screen readers, which are assistive technologies used by individuals with visual impairments. It should be designed in a way that screen readers can accurately interpret and convey the content to the user.
  • Alternative Text for Images: All images on the website should have appropriate alternative text (alt text) assigned to them. Alt text provides a textual description of the image, allowing individuals who cannot see the image to understand its content.
  • Color Contrast: Sufficient color contrast should be maintained between text and background elements to ensure readability for individuals with visual impairments. WCAG provides specific guidelines for color contrast ratios.
  • Text Resizing: Users should be able to resize the text on the website without loss of functionality or content. This accommodates individuals with low vision who may need larger text sizes to read the content comfortably.
  • Captions and Transcripts: If the website contains multimedia content such as videos or audio, captions and transcripts should be provided. This ensures that individuals with hearing impairments can access the information presented in the media.
  • Form Accessibility: Forms on the website should be designed to be accessible, including appropriate labeling, error validation, and clear instructions. This helps individuals with various disabilities, including those using assistive technologies, to fill out forms accurately.
  • Provide multi language option  

Safety and Security Measures

  • SSL/TLS Encryption: Implementing SSL/TLS certificates to secure the communication between the website and users, ensuring that sensitive information, such as login credentials, is encrypted.

  • Secure Authentication: Implementing strong authentication mechanisms, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts and protect against credential theft.

  • Protection against Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Attacks: Employing measures to mitigate XSS vulnerabilities, such as input validation and output encoding, to prevent malicious code injection and protect users from script-based attacks.

  • Regular Security Updates: Ensuring that the website's software, including the content management system (CMS), plugins, and frameworks, are regularly updated with the latest security patches to address known vulnerabilities.
